Office Hours:  Thursday, 1-2pm & 3-5pm

Purpose

This recitation is design to broaden your perspective on solving differential equations and linear algebra problems.  The recitation will focus on homework, concepts and examples presented in lecture.  Class will normally begin with an opportunity to ask questions about the homework or lecture material.  No question is considered a dumb question!

I strongly encourage you to come to my office hours or email me if you have any questions.  I think you will find the one-on-one support extremely helpful to your education.  If you are unable to make it to my office hours, I will be available before and after the recitation to discuss questions and schedule appointments.  Keep in mind that you may go to the office hours of any APPM 2360 professor or TA.

Homework

On the top of each assignment, please put your name, student number, assignment number, TA Furrer, and recitation number 2360-046.  Remove ragged edges and staple your homework to receive total credit for the assignment.  I cannot stress enough how important it is to attempt all the homework problems!  Each assignment is worth 24 points (with the exception of assignment number 0, which is worth 6 points) - generally 6 points for trying all the problems and 18 for the correctness of 6 to 7 problems that I will grade.  No credit will be given for answers without justification.

Department Policy:  NO LATE HOMEWORK WILL BE ACCEPTED!

Your lowest homework score will be dropped in the calculation of your final homework grade.  Please use your homework drop wisely!  Homework will be worth 150 points toward your final grade.  Note that there are no quizzes unless attendance becomes an issue.

You are encouraged to work together on assignments as long as everyone does their own work.  This means that you must write your solutions independently!  I encourage you to work on problems by yourself first, and then talk them over with classmates.  I find that this is an effective way of learning the material.

Projects

Since recitation is not designed as a lab question and answer period, I recommend that you sign up for the 1-credit Pass/Fail APPM 2460 course.  The course will help you learn more about the computer software used to solve differential equations and linear algebra problems.  In addition, the class will provide pointers on how to write up proper lab reports!  If you need more help with your projects, TAs will be holding regular office hours in the Applied Math Undergraduate Lab (ECCR 143) during the lab weeks.

Grading of the projects will be divided among the TAs and hence I may or may not be grading your projects. Your lab grade will be based on presentation, spelling, grammar, clarity, and mathematical correctness.  If you have questions regarding your lab grade, please see Matt Nabity.  Projects will be worth 150 points of your final grade.
